Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary?
A test of spoken English will be included as a component of the College English Test. Many people express their support for the test. In the first place, with the deepening of reform and wider opening to the outside world, face-to-face talks with foreigners are becoming more and more frequent, so our society needs people who possess the ability to speak fluent English. In the second place, people who can speak English fluently will have a better chance of obtaining a better job. Therefore, such a test is really necessary.
However, some people hold an opposite view. They consider it unnecessary to adopt the test. There are two reasons for this. One is that even if a person speaks fluent English, he may not find a satisfactory job, for opportunity, in some cases, is more important. The other is that spoken English does not play any role in many people’s jobs.
As for me, I am undoubtedly for the test because college students will benefit endlessly in their future career if they can speak fluent English. I am determined to improve my spoken English through various means. And no doubt it will do megood.
