China has much to show the world about the value 
…of economic openness, 
…of conditions favorable to foreign investment, 
…tariff reduction, 
…and increased reliance on market discipline. 
Therefore, I hope China will be active in the global negotiations 
…in persuading countries that have resisted reforms to follow this proven path to economic development.

I am taking the floor on behalf of the European Union. 

The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the European Union – Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia – and the associated countries Cyprus, Malta and Turkey wish to align themselves with this statement. 

The European Union reaffirms the great importance it attaches to addressing the social dimension of globalization and confirms its strong support for reinforcing the International Labor Office’s role in this context.
