一般说来，new在一些惯用特定的复合形容词中例如new-born child、new-laid eggs、new-baked bread、new-found pride、new-fallen leaves、new-fangled gadgets、new-fashioned clothes…。其他可自由加上表示“新的”形容词就用newly，例如：newly-appointed president、newly-married couple、newly-furnished rooms、newly-invented gimmicks、newly issued stamps、newly published books等。
