China´s road transportation network nears completion

The construction of China's road transportation network is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The price tag is almost 900-billion yuan.

Five roads connect the north and the south and seven roads run east-west. The total length of the network is about 35,000 kilometers.

Vice Communication Minister Weng Mengyong says the network which covers all of China's major cities is of great importance politically, economically and also for national defense. Weng also says eight projects totaling 800 kilometers are not yet completed.

These eight projects are in southwestern China's Yunnan and Guizhou provinces where the geologic conditions are complex.
