1. a gentle woman 一个温和的女人；a gentle man 一个绅士

3. I have an elder brother.我有一个哥哥。
elder通常是指“年长的”，尤其是在对比的情况下。而older则通常指“老的”。我们一般说an elder brother而不说 an older brother.

alike是指“同样的，相似地”，如：He treats all the customers alike.
9. thrifty 节约的，industrious 勤劳的，thrifty and industrious勤俭节约的

11. She seems to be on the go all the time.她看起来总是那么忙。
be on the go是“忙碌”的意思；也可以表示“刚要做某事”，如：

be of no use = be useless，同理be of use = be useful；类似的还有be of help, be of no help等。
